WARNING: The remainder of this review will probably contain MANY spoilers.
Gabe was scheduled to pick up his ex-wife and daughter from the ferry when a gunman took over the ferry and shoved his ex-wife overboard. His daughter only escaped when Chloe interfered, and Chloe was taken hostage instead. While the authorities went to containment, the gunman drove the ferry to the middle of the bay. Gabe Rossi went to hospital to find his ex-wife and daughter, and they asked him to rescue Chloe who saved them...
The suspense part could have been interesting if it actually made sense, such as "he ( the gunman) rips the zipper from his nondescript black jacket and reveals a vest strapped with several automatic assault weapons". WTF?!?!?!! A "vest" can be strapped with SEVERAL assault weapons? Did the author base her reality on video games like Doom where the hero routinely carries 8 double-handed weapons plus pistols and grenades? But if it featured one ex-jarhead coast guard who wants to play hero just because his ex-wife and little daughter wanted him to, well, it's a fantasy, not reality.
To summarize, the book is one overarching plot that was competent but filled with illogical setup, bad action scenes, and barely lukewarm romance.
