FMC CanDee McCain was tall (6'5" in heels), buxom, sassy, witty, and loves practical jokes. But when her ex Phillip stole her debut novel and passed it off as his own, then left town while she was out writing a genealogy report so her belongings were auctioned off for nonpayment of rent, CanDee had to live in a car and find another genealogy to work on, and her job brought her to Texas Rose Ranch, where she met the Rose clan... Cinco Rose... who initially mistaken her for a stripper. And Cinco is taller than she is, and while it was not love at first sight, CanDee can give just as well she can get. Her ongoing "practical joke war" with "Lefty", the onsite mechanic was epic, and her quick wit left Cinco breathless (in excitement) as Cinco was depressed after divorcing Naomi (who was just after him for his money). But when CanDee's ex tried to blackmail her for more money, it would be up to Cinco and CanDee to save the ranch.
The flirting dialog was world-class, IMHO, some of the best banter in romance I've read (and I've read several hundred) There were some suspense elements near the end where the crazy ex came back leading to the darkest hour, and CanDee finally learned to no longer be weak in front of her ex, after they reached a bargain where they both held something over the other's head. There was a twist after that what I will not reveal, but it was a very good grand gesture. Both FMC and MMC learned to change and it was a great fun read. I wished for a bit more karma on the evil ex, but hey, one can dream.
