GRR Reviews Cowboys Don't Cry (Tanner Brothers) by Anne McAllister

Cowboys Don't Cry is a "Western Romance" (which basically means it involves cowboys) between the ranch foreman Robert Tanner and the new owner of the ranch, who happened to be a city girl and school teacher, Maggie MacLeod. Maggie was a tempting redhead who knew nothing of ranch ops but willing to learn, and someone everybody talked about in private but shows deference to in public... Except for Tanner. Tanner had trust issues after his wife had a miscarriage and basically refused to come back to the ranch. Tanner should have left the ranch but his promise to the previous owner to help with the transition must be kept. But the more he stayed, the more inappropriate things he wanted to do with Maggie... And the affection is mutual...

SPOILER AHEAD

Tanner is one tortured soul with conflicting views to Maggie and eventually, when temptation was too strong, he did a runner to sort out his feelings, by working his way across the west for many months. When he finally admitted to himself that he wanted Maggie, he came back, but will Maggie be waiting around for him? Frankly, this sort of "run away to sort feelings" belongs to BEGINNING of the book, not as the end resolution of the book. It's horribly annoying to read.

Category: Western

Primary Plot: Ranch foreman conflicted between his view on woman and his promise to teach the new owner all he knew, except he's attracted to the feisty city-woman...
