GRR Reviews Going Down (Five Wishes - Book 1) by Elise Sax

Going Down is a collection of five novellas in a shared universe of Esperanza, a university town. The five stories managed to segue into each other without too much "hand-waving", and they are at times, quite funny, as they are written as romantic comedy / adventure / suspense. You're not supposed to take them too seriously.

The five stories are:
  • Aspiring actress with claustrophobia got stuck with her hottie landlord in the elevator
  • BBW wanted to woo and old crush was instead wooed by the hottest star in Hollywood, who will wrestle her family AND a bear for her love
  • Nerd hottie PhD candidate falsely accused of plagiarism had a one-night-stand with a rich blueblood who needed her to play fiancee
  • Bar owner girl and the guy who bought the bar out from under her ended up in middle of Mexico chased by narcos
  • Mercenary "troubleshooter" had to deal with off-kilter muffin-baker about her family farm and the hooligans trying to intimidate her family to sell
The stories are intertwined and the character(s) in the next story were usually introduced in the first story, and so on. It was noticeable, but did not distract from the story too much. Each adventure is short, fast, and pretty darn funny to read, and each main character has a character arc and was changed by the end of the short adventure, at least a little. These are pretty darn good short gems.
