GRR Reviews Second Chance Ranch by Liz Isaacson

Second Chance Ranch managed to be clean, Christian, Western, and Military Romance all at the same time, as well as add a dose of mystery, second chance, and family expectations vs. personal desires all into one novel, yet it juggled all the plot points expertly.

Major Squire Ackerman got out of the military and went home to help manage the ranch so his parents can retire but what he really wanted is to go to Veterinary School. And he can't go when he realized the financial records were a mess... possibly over a million bucks are missing. And he put out an ad to hire an accountant... but the only one who answered as Kelly, the girl that rejected his high school prom invitation from way back when. Kelly just recently filed for divorce and move back to her parent's place in town with a 4-year old son in tow, trying to figure out her place in life, and she had a masters in accounting. Squire wanted to forgive Kelly and make a second go at it, but with the old wounds, and a million bucks missing from the ranch accounts, it will take more than a bit of persistence and a lot of faith to make that happen, even if Kelly is willing...

The push-pull between the two characters were good. Kelly had trust issues after catching her (now ex-) husband cheating. Squire felt stifled as he really wanted to be a veterinarian rather than a ranch owner/foreman. If Squire gets what he wanted he had to leave, and Kelly felt betrayed when he didn't tell her right away. Then there's the problem of the missing money. All in all, the book was a good piece of juggling, if a wee bit on the long side.
