GRR Reviews Sweet Home Alaska (Alaskan Hero Book by Rebecca Thomas
Sweet Home Alaska is about a second chance at life, and lifelong ambitions, but also, about coming home. There was mainly sweetness, not too much conflict. While the main thing is about food, there doesn't seem to be any attempt to incorporate food into the romance.
Lauren Kinkade left Alaska and her grandma's bakery behind to pursue a dream of acting in Hollywood and got nowhere. Instead, a chance encounter leads her to her passion for catering. When her grandma passed away and left her the bakery, it is time for Lauren to go home. But the town wasn't that welcome, so Lauren had to concentrate her efforts on convincing the one guy that can make a difference... Trey Briggs, owner of the local hotel that is holding his grand opening in a few weeks. However, Trey was always intimidated by Lauren's beauty back when she was around in high school, and he got his nickname "Crash" because he was always clumsy around her. So he'd rather not see her... ever. But soon Lauren got him to change his mind... and a lot more... But is Lauren's ambition enough for her to stay in Alaska? Can Trey gamble his heart?
NOT a clean romance, the sweet tone turns into steamy sex later. Darkest hour was definitely there as there was doubt that will Lauren stay in Alaska when she was summoned by Food Network to discuss something... And the resolution was sweet, though there wasn't much of a grand gesture.
