GRR Reviews Jennifer and Rocket (The Princesses) by Anita Claire
Jennifer and Rocket is a pretty standard "opposites attract" romance. What made it better was the rich family, culture, and craft details of each characters background that blended seamlessly into the story.
Jennifer Takahashi is a Hawaiian born Asian-American (with both Chinese and Japanese blood) and a middle-school teacher in Silicon Valley. She had dreamed of dating preppy metrosexual guys and marrying one... mostly because that's what the family expected of her. She never expected to enjoy some time with a tattooed, pierced, and rough-looking programmer Rocket on the dance floor, and she surprised herself when she agreed to go with Rocket to an art gallery, only to learn that they both are part-time artists (he's got a metalwork studio, she's into necklace making) And as Jennifer and Rocket get to know each other, Jennifer had to decide soon whether Rocket was just a wild fling and she should find more metrosexual guys... or is Rocket the one to keep as he was the nicest to her by far?
Author was surprisingly accurate in describing Asian cultures (her previous book Hita (The Princesses of Silicon Valley Book 3) dealt with an Indian family very accurately as well) without making them caricatures, and the description of the of other family members (Rocket's father, Jennifer's mother and grandmother as well as aunt) are just about perfect as it really explained how the characters came about.
