Generally, in a Shifter-n-normal love story there is a bit of subterfuge, at least at the beginning, so there was a moment of surprise when the female found that her beau was a "scary" shifter. This book did not use this formula, but instead, launched into a disappointingly vague and third-person narrative about how the FMC, Capri, already knew that her beau, Hunter is a bear-shifter so there was no secret to discover. Instead, this book is basically Hunter being stubbornly denying his attraction to her. and she stubbornly refusing to let go. He obviously succumbs by the end but really, it's not a "struggle" if he simply decides "okay, I do like her".
Denying the love for another is can be romantic if done right, as the denial is tinged with admiration, then finally acceptance. This is not one of those. What you end up with is "wait, so he changed his mind, and that's it?" Eh...
