GRR Reviews Mason (Remington Ranch Book 1) by SJ McCoy
Mason is one of those "old flame is back in town; how to convince her to stay" stories, with a bit of a mystery: why did she leave and broke contact for TEN YEARS? And the truth will devastate them both.
Mason Remington had loved Gina for a long time, since they were children. They even promised to marry each other. Then one day, she left for New York and never came back, refusing to talk to him, leaving him broken-hearted. He spent his time building his ranch business, and occasionally pick up girls, but his heart was still pining for Gina. Gina, on the other hand, settled in New York, became a photographer, and even found a fiancee... sort of. Now that Gina's father can no longer take care of the ranch due to failing health, Gina is back to help move her father to New York to be with her, even though he swore he won't leave. And this time, Mason was determined to learn what caused her to run away for TEN YEARS, and the answer will devastate them both...
Both MMC and FMC are emotional, but not to the point of melodramatic. Both harbored a lot of hurt for perceived wrongs, and both were actually justified for their reaction as neither knew the whole truth. To be completely fair, it's more Gina's fault that her self-esteem was low enough to... uh, hold the grudge for ten years. But really, Mason can never look her up in ten years? He had to wait this long for her to come back to explain everything? And the culprit for this mess... No karma for him? This makes both main characters CHILDISH!
Other than these holes the book was rather enjoyable.
