GRR Reviews Stealing Jason Wilde: A Novel by Dee Ernst

Stealing Jason Wilde relies on a certain sense of ludicrous dark humor and pretty ridiculous setup for the rom-com / sit-com situation to work. If you dig this sort of story, you should like it just fine. If you don't, you'll think this is over-the-top ridiculous instead of hilarious.

To recap, librarian Annie Reynolds was divorced, in her forties, and still gun shy from relationships. Her only solace was in her safe job, and in her annual getaway with her BFFs to Dune Road in the Hamptons. This year, their decision to invite Tina to the gathering was rather disastrous. Not only Tina brought way too much stuff, her dog, her closet case of anxieties (with meds), and her obsession with Jason Wilde, B-list TV and movie star. Serendipitously, they ran into Jason Wilde in a popular bar. Unfortunately, Jason was trying out a new pain med, and mixing alcohol with those meds was a bad idea. Now Jason's passed out, and they don't know where to take him except back home... and next thing the women knew, Jason Wilde is victim of a kidnapping (WTF?!) because Jason's agent needed a publicity stunt, and Jason was fine in going along with the cockamamie plan, to the exasperated horror of all the women. Then the FBI got involved, and Annie found to her horror that her date Andy is the local FBI agent in charge... How will the women get out of this sticky mess, when their house guest refuses to cooperate?

The tension was ratcheted up quite nicely as every plan that the women came up with backfired and made things worse. Annie's relationship with Andy the FBI agent took on a whole new different meaning. As this is rom-com, don't expect too much reality intruding upon the story, but as I said, I liked it more than I hated it.
