GRR Reviews Evading Fate (Hidden Scars Book 3) by A.M. Myers
Evading Fate is a story of two best friends, male and female, each with deep fears of loving another due to their prior emotional wounds, came to admit they love each other.
Trey survived a hard childhood with an abusive father and a mother who escaped from reality with drugs that eventually killed her. His adoptive family treated him like one of their own but he spent forever denying himself because he never want to be his father, yet he's afraid he will turn into him. He was best friends with Addilyn, who found that her mother has early-onset Alzheimer's and is losing her mind at only her 40's, and Addy promised her mother she will not reveal her condition to others... yet it was harder and harder to keep the secret, esp. when Addy feared that fate will caused her to also lose her mind later... She rejected Kyle, her mostly platonic boyfriend... who wouldn't take a hint that it's over, even as Trey noticed Addy's changes. And one drunken night after a wedding, Addy ended up in Trey's bed... fully clothed, but they kissed, and Trey realized he has feelings for Addy, and the feeling is mutual... but neither wanted to ruin their friendship... But their feelings cannot be denied, and soon they will be forced to confront them... for better or worse.
The story feels a little long, but the emotional push-pull was quite good. I found the book to be quite enjoyable, as the cost of keeping secrets burn holes in one's soul, and only love can heal those wounds.
