GRR Reviews Everything We Keep: A Novel (The Everyt by Kerry Lonsdale
Everything We Keep is about love, sacrifice, and letting go, that is presented as partly a mystery, and partly as a love triangle. It is deeply poignant and sad at times, even as it managed to leave enough room for a sequel or two.
To recap... Aimee Tierney is a sou chef that had her life planned... marry her childhood sweetheart James Donato, raise a family, buy out her parent's restaurant, and live happily ever after... But all the plans came crashing down when James vanished in a boating accident, and her wedding date turned into a funeral date. When a psychic gave Aimee a message suggesting that James is alive in Mexico, Aimee chalked it up as someone taking advantage of her grief. She came to know Ian, a kind photographer who has his own grief to settle. But the more Aimee fell for Ian, the more she realized she cannot leave any doubt about the idea of James in Mexico. What she found south of the Border shocked her to her core, and made her question EVERYTHING about the life she and James had built together... about family secrets, about revenge, and about chasing life's true passions... And Aimee will have to make a devastating choice that may break her... or set her free.
The beginning was intriguing enough, and there are enough red herrings to make you wonder if Aimee's life was indeed as tranquil as it seemed. The further she dug, the deeper the rabbit hole got, and soon it was all a facade... what is real and what are merely appearances? Read this book. You will be surprised how deep it goes.
