GRR Reviews Hidden Sins (Luke Fletcher series #1) by Karice Bolton
Hidden Sins is a contemporary romantic suspense. Everything was actually quite tense, except the problem of WHY the conspiracy was in place... The way it was described to work doesn't make sense. And the guy's too good.
Hannah Walker had to run from her life in the religious community. Her sister had already disappeared, and she saw her friend got executed by two leaders in the compound. She heard what the leader, and "Eric", who supposedly disappeared a year ago, discussed her fate should they find her. So she ran... all the way into California to a halfway house she found. In the coffee shop nearby, she by chance ran into Luke Fletcher, literally. He's in the private security business and immediately deduced she needed help, not that he'll spook her by revealing that. Then everything seems to fall into place for Hannah. She was offered a job at a night club as a hostess (nothing sexual, really), and an artist with large house offered to share one of her guest rooms with her cheap, so she can move out of the halfway house. Then her nightmare started... The bad guys found her somehow. A stalker confronted her on the beach, then when Luke dated her, someone tried to run them off the road. It doesn't help when she found that Luke was her roommate's brother, and a silent partner in the club she worked in. She thought she's being controlled again, but she needed help from Luke to set things right, for she knew something that can get people, a lot of people killed, and that's why people are after her...
Without spoiling the entire story, let's just say the way that the conspiracy "business" was described, It makes no sense for it to only run 3-4 times a year. The longer the merchandise remain, the more likely it may be exposed. Furthermore, the idea of giving her "warning" made no sense either. Other than these two problems, everything made sense, but the characters were not very balanced. Luke was basically superman, with connections for everything necessary. All in all, while enjoyable, it's also flawed.
