GRR Reviews The Player: The Wedding Pact #2 by Denise Grover Swank

The Player is a contemporary romance featuring a woman who settled for practicality but wondered about passions, and a playboy who wondered about the one who got away.

Divorce attorney Blair believes marriage should be based on practicality, not passion. Her doctor fiancee is perfect, and they are about to be married in only a few weeks. But the closer she got to the wedding date, the more she was reminded of her lack of passion now... and of her boyfriend in law school, Garrett, whom she believed cheated on her. Suddenly, her world was turned upside down. Garrett turned out to be her fiancee's cousin... and nemesis, and the latest addition to the groomsmen. But she cannot go back to Garrett, as her job may be on the line... but Garrett, who may have slept around a bit after Blair refused to hear him out, had not found anyone to settle down with... None compared to Blair. Now he must risk family war to stop the wedding and convince Blair to come back to him, but he may be underestimating his nemesis... who has several backup plans in motion...

The twists were great in this romance, as Garrett's nemesis (i.e. Blair's fiancee) seems to be a totally sociopath who shall... Nah, I'm not spoiling the story. But it seems our hero Garrett was outmatched at EVERY TURN, and ended up looking kinda... pathetic. The ending had Blair (and grandma) save the day with their own plotting, but no, I'm not spoiling that either.

Overall, I find this book somewhat less charming than volume 1: the substitute, mainly due to Garrett's... lameness. Even his grand gesture was... a bit on the lame side. He needs to take negotiation lessons from Churchill and Roosevelt.
