Rough Around the Edges Meets Refined is a contemporary romance that used the opposites attract trope. The push-pull between the MMC and FMC was quite good, but the rest of the book feels somewhat unbalanced as what started out as a equal partnership ended up being more about the MMC, at least it feels that way.
To recap, Noah Mackie has a great family for helping him raise two girls by himself. But when his promised promotion fell through, and he's even let go due to lack of projects, he had to scramble for work, and had no time to date. Finding his girls' dance teacher, Cassie Ellis, extremely attractive is not helping his libido any. But when she wanted to redo her basement and turn it into a dance studio, he can't say no, even though she's as about as open as a brick wall, at least at first...
My problem is after they got to know each other a bit, both characters seem to have... regressed! Noah turned into a "generic alpha" instead of being a sensitive guy about half way into the book. Basically, he turned into an envious jerk, then managed to dial it back a notch as he realized he's being stupid, then managed to do it over and over again. And Cassie, instead of the confident and caring professional woman, became passive aggressive instead when Noah turned into a jerk pushing for a commitment.
