GRR Reviews The Redemption of Beverly Cain by Kayla Cain
The Redemption of Beverly Cain tried to portray an abused woman regaining her life but it just kept getting worse, and even worse. However, the way the problems are solved for her made the story extremely UNsatisfying to read.
Beverly Cain is a girl in an abusive relationship but believed her man Tom still love her. To please him, she quit her job, she left her friends, she gave up her life. But the beatings did not stop, and she refused help, even from her best friend and kind ER physician John. When Tom's work was cut to half-time, Bev had no choice but to take up a part-time position at the only local club, where she ran into John again. Bev eventually succumbed to John's tender love, then she felt she had betrayed Tom? Just as she wanted to kick Tom out and take John as her lover, Tom surprised her with his promotion to assistant manager and bought her a ring. Bev's situation improved for a while, then it got worse... much worse...
I don't mind reading survivor abuse tales, but Bev here is a TOTAL pushover. She can't do ANYTHING by herself. The two times she was assaulted she was rescued by a friend once and the other time... Let's just say the person who assaulted her had a change of heart. Thus, both qualify as deus ex machinas. It was just too sad to read, and the FMC was just too spineless.
