GRR Reviews Charleigh (The Kenrick Brides) by Sherri Beth Johnson
Charleigh thought she married well, to a doctor Gabe, but he died three months before baby Libby was born. With nowhere to stay, she had to go to her only relative... Uncle and Aunt Eddie. Only after arriving in town did he found that her uncle died a few days ago. Moreover, the snowstorm meant she had to spend time with her neighbor, the Kenrick family, esp. Krister, who eventually drove her to her uncle's place. Charleigh then found out that there was no help to be had... The place was so run down there were no maids or ranch hands, and only generosity from the neighbors kept the farm going. Moreover, Aunt Eddie is half crazy... Charleigh, who had never worked except in boarding school, must learn how to make fire, cook food, milk cows, and more, and Krister is there, always smiling and helping. However, he said he is leaving soon...
While the "fish out of water" anecdotes are cute, they didn't add much to the romance. It's a survival tale and one guy who's got patience of a saint. Conflict? There ain't any. It's just basically one poor girl got hit with all the bad luck in the world, but with enough faith, a right man will find her. Argh.
