GRR Reviews Nora Roberts Land (Dare Valley) by Ava Miles

Meredith Hale's evil ex-husband Richard (aka "Rick-the-dick") blamed her "addiction" to Nora Roberts' romance novels for their breakup, giving her "unrealistic expectations" about marriage. However, Richard just wanted to take advantage of the Hale family name as grandpa Hale is a VERY famous journalist. When Meredith's family asked for a little help to run their world famous independent news in Dare Valley, Colorado, she decided a change of scenery is necessary. She even has a plan: write an article about a divorcee finding true love in her hometown, proving that romance novels can come true... // War correspondent Tanner McBride is burned out. At least he is back on US soil, where he didn't have to worry about trusting the wrong person in a war zone or watch aftermaths of atrocities. He did not expect to be blackmailed by his boss into seducing his ex-wife and break her heart. The boss believes his ex-wife's upcoming article may air dirty laundry about him, and he is leaving NOTHING to chance... He'll destroy that article any way he can, and he's got leverage on Tanner's brother for make him comply. // When Meredith and Tanner meet, their chemistry is undeniable. Moreover, Meredith found herself falling for a journalist, something she swore she'd never do again. However, as a suspicious death in town got both of their attention, their feelings unraveled their resolve to stay apart... but even as they drew closer, what they discovered was someone inside law enforcement is involved in smuggling drugs... and there may be no one to trust...

The title is a joke, about "escaping to Nora Roberts Land" (i.e., go read a romance novel) and this is used with the author's blessing. I find the schtick amusing. Though I have a hard time getting my head around the "I'll hire a guy to seduce my wife and break her heart so she can't write that article which will protect my secrets" idea. Where does this guy come up with this absurd gambit? Once you get past that, the book is quite good.  But overall? 3/5, sorry.
