Kate never wanted to go back to her hometown, where she suffered the biggest embarrassment of her life that changed her direction forever. But for her job, she had to go back to help her hometown enterprise rebrand itself. And once back, she found that the boy she always loved, Peter, and also the same boy who helped destroy her reputation, is the town chemistry teacher. // Peter wanted to be a chemical engineer, but he ended up teaching chemistry at his old high school. He did not expect to see "Katie" again, and when she had to stay for a little while, he wondered if she can ever forgive him... and become friends again... or will she ever be "the one that got away"?
The author chose to give us two parallel tracks, mostly in present day with some flashbacks to them in high school. I personally think the "biggest embarrassment" turned out to be an extremely arbitrary decision (what constitutes "outside help"?) does the town really remember that much? Seems like guilt and shame have ruined both MCs and they need to sort it out before they can be all they can be. A bit angst-y without that much emotional payoff.
