GRR Reviews Sweet Waters by Julie Carobini

Tara and her sisters lost their father six years ago. When her mother went off trekking in Europe with her new husband, Tara decided to head back to her childhood hometown, Otter Bay, on the coast of California, to recapture some memories. Meeting handsome firefighter/paramedic Josh in a local restaurant, then pitching in to help the harried owner's daughter/manager was instinctual, and a slow simmering romance develops between Tara and Josh. But the more Tara and her sisters stayed, the more secrets they uncover about their father, their mother, and the rest of town... Was her dad really an embezzler? Did her mom fell in love with someone else before dad? What drove them from Otter Bay? Both Josh and Tara have to confront their knowledge in faith, family... and each other.

At just over 400 pages, this is a long read, and the secrets were unraveled slowly that you savor each bite. It's NOT romantic suspense, yet not super-angst-y either. It's also very clean and Christian, lots of mention about church and faith, without being overbearing. There's definitely tension in the air.  There are character arcs, though more for Tara than for Josh. While unraveling mysteries and confronting the past was a bit of a trope, this is a very well executed one, if a bit on the slow side.
