Shannon lost her mother to suicide by OD. Forever haunted by her failure to save her mom, she hated her dad for driving her mother into it. With no heart to give into any relationship, she moved from job to job, until Tate entered her life. // Tate sold his company at a high and now is a rich man looking for his next passion. When he had to protect Shannon from two drunks intending nasty deeds, it was just being a nice guy. But he can't forget Shannon. When Shannon became a private fitness coach, Tate had to hire her, just to see her again, and see where this can go. But Shannon is broken, and cannot love Tate at all. Then Shannon learned the real truth behind her mother's death... and everything changed...
I think Tate's a bit too perfect here, and Shannon needs to see a shrink, as her family is... seriously dysfunctional. But the novel's good, not great, as it relies on this "one revelation" of epiphany. 4/5
