 Zoe, the special assistant to the mayor of the small town of Amor, knew her town will never be the same after the nearby space sport opened for space tourism. But when the real estate developer Stephen arrived, with the blessing of the mayor, to buy out a few businesses so the town can grow, she chose to sabotage Stephen to drive him out, to "save" her town...  // Stephen is a workaholic raised by a workaholic after the loss of his mother. He knew a promotion is promised if he can get the town to buy in, and he's NOT trying to mess up the town. But with "help" like Zoe thwarting his every move, his overall mission may be in jeopardy... // Stephen and Zoe are total opposites... He's a disciplined deal-maker. She's a free-spirit friend-maker. Yet there is an intense attraction there that neither can deny. But will they be fighting too much to give love a chance? 

Okay, the back and forth is actually pretty good, and the changing of mind makes sense. However, it's certain that the "spaceport" bit was written without a technical consultant. There is just NO WAY that even a civilian spaceport would let just random gawkers go up and TOUCH the ship... or let a pilot offer "inside tours" after a landing.  This is not a 747. Not that you can touch the skin of a 747 from the ground anyway. Maybe the engine cowling. But this is supposed to be a spaceship? Spaceplane? Whatever... 3/5

Charles rose from rags to riches. He has a mansion, his parents' debts are paid off. With little left to do, he booked a seat on the inaugural flight of space tourism provider Galactic Enterprises, only to be told he's just a stand-by, even if he had to pay a quarter of a million dollars for that chance. But with nothing else to do, he headed to the launch town, and met Bev... // Bev was shocked that she had won two seats on the inaugural flight of space tourism from Galactic Enterprises... And she didn't even enter (it was her best friend Kat). Meeting Charles was fun, but she never expected to see him again. Surprise... when one from the initial team was forced to leave, Charles was the backup. // Both had expectations about the other... Bev was dumped by her rich boyfriend (who turned out to be MARRIED), and Charles didn't know that Bev won her seats, and was not rich like him and the reporter was at the behest of Galactic Enterprises, not to make her famous. Can they see through their own prejudices to see the real person, with only three days together before the flight?

The space flight thing was pretty good, and it at least made for a fresh setting. The extra characters are a bit... extra? Felt a bit superfluous, but that's why they're support characters. It's just that I didn't feel much of a darkest hour. 3.5/5

GRR Reviews Borrowing a Fiance by Kat Bellemore

Melinda had been managing her parent's cafe for over a decade. She's getting grumpy because she wants to go to college. When her younger sister, who did go to college, announced an upcoming marriage, she reluctantly agrees to attend with her best platonic friend Daniel. But when pressure mounted, she announced that Daniel is her fiance and they intended to marry soon. Now caught in her lies, she doesn't know how to get out of it... // Daniel had been to prison, and got back out, knowing what he did (he was forced, but he knew he could have found another way) and he had been living properly since. He's not the kind of guy a girl takes home to meet their parents, but when Melinda asked, he can't refuse. But be her fake fiancee? That's not exactly a burden, but he doesn't really want to lie...

Now that's an interesting way to handle fake fiancee, by layering the problems with expectations, desires, envy, only to find nothing is as it seems. And even the darkest hour was handled properly, instead of "sensitive hearing and ego", it's "you don't need me now that you got what you wanted". Wow, that's some deft plotting. Can't spoil the plot, so I'll stop here. But read this.

Ruby avoided just about everything celebratory in her hometown of Amor. She had been through a lot, including the death of her parents and her husband. It has been four years she's even left town. Until Parker came back... // Parker made his fortune and is back in town to celebrate his parents' 30th anniversary. He loved Ruby in high school, but she stood him up on a date. Now he's not sure he wanted a second chance at Ruby.  But the town of Amor is ready to lend a hand.

Didn't feel much beyond some warm fuzzies.
