Melody is an award-winning songwriter with a city office. But when a death in the family (her wild cousin, now a single mother, has died) called her back, Melody was suddenly reminded of all she had lost... Esp. Brody, the man she thought she'd marry and have kids with... but she left him years ago, after a traumatic loss that shattered them both. // Brody abandoned his life plans and became a pediatrician for his town, and he never forgot Melody. The funeral brought her back, but what happened next shocked them both... Her dead cousin had named Melody as the guardian of her baby daughter. Is this karma that will bring Melody and Brody back together, to help them through the loss that they suffered long ago?
Ah, a good mix of sudden baby and second chance trope. I have a little problem with the cousin's deadbeat boyfriend/sperm donor... Showing up so late and only to put a scare into Melody. Almost felt like an afterthought. 4.5/5

GRR Reviews Breathe Again by Sydney Logan
Breath Again is about two damaged souls coming together... if they can get over each other's distrust. However, the initial meeting was a bit jarring.
Carrie Malone ran for the city after her father died and her mother taken up drinking. She found a waitressing job to put herself through school. One night, 10 minutes before closing, a disheveled man walked in, several days unshaven face, mud on his pants and shoes... but wearing a Rolex. At closing, Carrie looked at the spot... The mug of decaf was untouched, but next to the coffee was the Rolex watch. She ran out and chased the guy down, who's about to jump off the bridge. Somehow, she talked him down and took him home. Next morning, at a moment of weakness, they made passionate love, then he noticed his wedding ring. She kicked him out, not giving him chance to explain. But he kept coming back... Slowly the truth emerged... He is Josh Bennett, a billionaire. He was married, and he had just buried his daughter when his wife, driving the kid, was hit head-on by a woman doped up on pain meds. But he kept wearing the ring for the daughter. Now that she's gone, he thought he had nothing to live for anymore, until Carrie talked him down from the bridge. Carrie was moved, and Josh made her see that she was running from her problems, just like he was. Can the two damaged souls find solace with each other?
The romance was sweet, though the initial sex seems to be a bit out of place. The two people were genuinely damaged by their respective trauma, but there is no nemesis in this book. Even the ex-wife was not really evil... And the push-pull was poignant. It's really... sad.
