GRR Review: Larger Than Life by Alison Kent

Larger Than Life by Alison Kent, as book 6 of her Smithson Group series, is a decent romantic suspense that unfortunately, went in several different directions, leading to a relatively low-key finish.

Mick Savin is working for the Smithson Group, that was investigating a suspect criminal organization when he was captured, seriously wounded, and left out to die in the New Mexico desert. He woke up in a medical center in rural West Texas with a lot of questions, including what was the woman that saved him was hiding... Neva Case was simply at the right place as the right time to save Mick, but she has her own secrets at stake... saving girls who wanted to leave a fundamentalist compound. When that secret was threatened, Mick may be her only hope of survival...

The book just reads... confused. There were Mick and Neva. Neva also has a suitor in town called Ed, the doctor who also helped her one time or another. That sorta triangle and twist later was good. But there is also a secondary romance, Candy, and Spencer. Spencer is the local high school football star and white, and Candy... is not. Spencer's dad is the local sheriff and tried all he could to get Spencer to concentrate on school, which basically means dumping Candy, and even Candy wanted Spencer to dump her, because she had a deep dark secret she needed to confess to.  But turns out Spencer's sheriff dad Yauncy and his wife Jeanne have a secret of their own.  That's THREE pairs. Let's add the latest runaway, Liberty, her boyfriend Jase, and the creepy lawyer Holden. Are you confused as to who's who yet? I know I am.

There are just too many moving plotlines that don't seem to intersect quite right, and too many couples to track. While I enjoyed the twists, I don't think this novel was written that particularly well... Too confusing.

There is also a bit of Hollywood physics at the end. Let's just say, if the sniper rifle is as massive as FMC thought it is, it wouldn't be a neat little hole between the eyes of his target, but an exploding head instead.

All in all, mediocre plotting, too many plotlines.

Category: Romantic Suspense

Primary Plot: Wounded Operative recuperating at a small town had to help FMC to save her "underground railroad" operation saving girls forced by religious sect
