GRR Reviews Set On You: Second Chance Series Book 5 by Kelly Collins

Set On You is a contemporary romance about a woman given a second chance after release from prison, but should she go with the handsome cowboy Keenan who's just visiting from Wyoming, or go back to her ex-fiancee, who's now married with a child on the way? There are some interesting twists which are results of excellent plotting, as the pivot into romantic suspense was almost seamless.

To recap, Robyn Armour spent 5 years in prison for using excessive force to defend herself.She was attacked in college and was saved by a resident monitor, whom she later got engaged to. She trained in martial arts and vowed never to be a victim again. When a drunk accosted her, she used her training and beat him to a pulp. The fiancee got married while she's in prison and has a kid on the way. Robyn went to live with her cellmates on Second Chance Ranch ran by her friend Mickey, and ran into Keenan, who's from Wyoming but only here to attend the wedding of one of his brothers here on the ranch. Keenan found Robyn interesting, but realized Robyn has some issues she needed to resolve, but they had a steamy fling anyway. Then Robyn's ex-fiance came back and still wanted her... ALONGSIDE with his wife...

Without revealing the twists, let's just say plots have a way of turning full circle, and this is a common theme in the author's Second Chance series... Whatever put the woman behind bars... she's supposed to learn a lesson from it, and the situation was not resolved. I personally think this one wasn't quite as good as book 4, but it's still excellent. The chemistry between Robyn and Keenan was built-up over time, not instant. In fact, the two can't really stand each other at the beginning, as Keenan never wanted to get involved with a "jailbird". Ouch. But their common love of animals, esp. a colt, brought them together. And while the twists wasn't that unexpected, they were satisfying.
