GRR Reviews No Pit So Deep: The Cody Musket Story by James Nathaniel Mill
No Pit So Deep is an adventure with elements of romance, rather than romance. At the heart of it is a redemption story along with a bodyguard / woman in peril story.
Cody Musket was a decorated retired Marine, haunted by a dark military past. Now a professional baseball player playing for the Houston Astros, he was just going for a movie when he witnessed three goons attempt to kidnap a woman from theater lobby. He quickly jumped into action and took down the three perps, saving the woman, who turned out to be Brandi, a local reporter who exposed a human trafficking ring and earned a price on her head. They agreed to not expose each other, after realizing they had much in common. But in the modern age, where everyone has a phone cam, their exploits soon went viral, and the syndicate vowed revenge. Cody swore to protect Brandi and her daughter from harm, but the experience caused him a relapse and his PTSD came out... what really happened in Afghanistan that pinned a medal on Cody? Can Brandi afford to learn the truth?
Wow, the story was a bit heavy on the religion (pray for a miracle and one was delivered), but it was intense. The author had excellent dialog, and the plot was gripping. Cody had many problems, from survivor's guilt to PTSD, that he's a mess. But with a bit of framing, it's "God left you here so you have a job to do." It is, none-the-less, an excellent adventure.
