First Response was billed as a prequel that sets the stage between Agent Spencer Allen and K-SAR head Kat Doyle but we rarely see them together in this story, as this is really Allen trying to solve a human trafficking case. The two stories barely intersect. The case was more interesting and action-packed than the mere 40 page short story suggests, but the romance? Ain't much here.
