Charlotte Kelly survived immeasurable amount of heartache and manipulation and moved back to her home city. She had to stay away from the only man who made her feel alive, because she had to keep her shame hidden from the world, and especially from him. Travis Parker cannot stand liars because his first love destroyed him with lies. It took an encounter with Charlotte to realize he can love again, but another lie destroyed that relationship. Charlotte is now back in town, but she's no longer the girl he knew...
Sometimes, the books can be over-plotted, i.e. you piled on just a little TOO much on the characters to make it really really really bad, and it just feels like this one may have been a little overplotted as if the author was either trying too hard or being overly dramatic. This is one of those books where Charlotte was abused a few too MANY times, IMHO, and too many bad things happened to her over the course of the story. It is a story of star-crossed lovers, and it is sad, but the overuse of trauma and "bad relationship" just felt... overdone and overly melodramatic. Travis came off as a bit vindictive, that the world can only exist without lies, when there are definitely shades of gray. I liked the novel, but I felt some parts could be better, which is why it's 4/5
