GRR Review Christmas Light by Jolyse Barnett

Can be retitled "how to get out of the friend zone", Christmas Light is about reunion, the story of how Jade Engle reconnected with Ben Stephens, her childhood best bud, and fell in love.

Jade and Benji, as he was known back then, were best buds, as Jade was a bit of tomboy back then. Until some mean girls bullied Jade into behaving more like a girl and left Benji behind as "girls can't be friends with boys". A decade later, Jade is heading home after getting burned out and unappreciated in her career (which wasn't her choice to start with) while Ben has grown up to be a doctor but was blacklisted by Jade's family due to alleged influence on Jade's brother (who has substance abuse problems). But Jade's a big girl now capable of her own decisions, and she decided on a holiday fling with Ben. However, Ben wanted a lot more...

The push-pull of relationship as each deal with family disapproval and remnants of their past were emotional, but the flat "stay away" message from Jade's family was just... very flat "douchebag behavior". Still, the story is a good holiday mood read.
