Jenna hit a severe writer's block and needs a muse. Ryan is trying to get away from his sticky (almost stalker) ex. They both end up on a cruise, they met, they commiserate... then their ship sank and they are washed up on a little island... Can they survive? Can they be together? What happens if they survive and return to civilization?
There is something that simply made no sense. They wash up on an uncharted island for couple days with barely any supplies, but apparently they have plenty of time bonking like rabbits, never mind all the salt in what's left of their clothes. After their rescue, the novel abruptly shifted into a conspiracy where someone is withholding information to force the couple into reaching the wrong conclusion about each other's commitment, then turned into a lot of "tell not show" as neither are investigators and both had to wait for details to be brought over by the police investigator.
Ryan and Jenna's banter seems to be on the mark, and one can only conclude Jenna's joke about being a romance author and Ryan as an on-demand printer was sort of 4th wall straining joke. As for the characters, I honestly didn't feel too much personality about them. Add it to the non-sensical plot, and I can only give this 2/5.
