GRR Review Christmas Magic, A Christmas Romance by Beth Barany

Christmas Magic, a two novella collection contains a set of fun stories that postulated... What if Christmas elves are living in disguise among us when it's not Christmas? And it's great fun to read.

Dahlia, a Santa's Elf, has 21 days to spend in the SF Bay Area (in disguise) trying to perfect the best toy in the world without using magic or revealing her true form... Can a Holiday fling with the delightful Liam be just her ticket to creativity? Or derail her plan to greatness? Liam swore off dating but his ex is going to be on a rival's arm for the holiday party, so he asked the vivacious secretary Dhalia to the party, but he found more than he bargained for...

Intriguing spin on "hidden agenda/identity" combined with "fling that turned serious" the story is rather delightful to read. And the grand gesture was grand indeed.

Florian is a master-baker-in-training living among humans practicing his craft, before going back to North Pole, but his magic has a tendency to blow up, sometimes literally, at the worst of times. Kate needs a cupcake maker to get her business off the floor, and Florian is the perfect fit, but when things started to heat up between them, Florian was seriously considering never going back, while Kate wonders what was Florian hiding...

This one has a bit of "oops" here and there as you don't want exploding cupcake at a kid's party... But it is still fun to read, but it's "hidden agenda/identity" combined with "falling for the boss-lady" this time. Unfortunately there wasn't much of a grand gesture this time, but rather, deus ex machina kinda ending.

Both are kinda urban fantasy with a load of holiday cheer. I like them well enough
