Chance and Libby was once married... for 48 hours. They were 18 and they actually made plans together, as Chance had an abusive father and runaway mother, and was in foster care in a family that didn't care. Libby was the best thing to happen to him... until her daddy appeared and basically dragged her away and started divorce proceedings. He joined the rodeo circuit and in the next five years, became one of the celebrated cowboys in bronc riding. This is when Libby came back into his life: she needs a paper signed and give him fair warning that she'll soon be engaged to marry someone else named "Ben". Chance became very angry as this basically means his five years of making something for himself and the possibility to ask for Libby's hand is over. When he got seriously injured, Libby decided to finally take charge of her own life and moved in with Chance to take care of him, and perhaps, rekindle their love, for Libby never stopped loving Chance. But when Ben the not-quite-fiancee and Sam, Libby's father came calling, Libby need all her strength to stand her ground...
The second chance romance with some baggage from five years ago was very believable, and it turns out neither Ben nor Sam was totally evil. Ben was lead on by Libby, and Sam... well, Sam was being an overly protective father who believed that Chance may be violent with Libby due to Chance having been abused. The fact that he owned nothing, and was in foster care didn't help much. But Sam also wanted Libby to go to school and eventually take over one of his car dealerships. Libby basically grew a backbone and made a compromise without compromising her love, while Chance stopped running away from problems and confront them instead, and fight for things he wanted rather than sit and sulk. It's a fun and satisfying read.
