GRR Reviews A Manhattanite's Christmas by Avery Aster

A Manhattanite's Christmas is a marriage of convenience story combined with reality show backdrop, as well as some serious confessions of one's real intentions.

Pop singer/actress Neve Adele (with a stalled career) and single father Sheldon Truman (who need money to fight his ex-wife for custody of their autistic son) must come together and compete in a reality TV show "Celebrity Newlywed Bootcamp" for a chance to redeem both of them, and realize their marriage was for real, not fake as they started with.

This is hardly the first book to use game show as a backdrop for "fake marriage / real love" trope, this one was actually pretty well done with proper motivation on both sides... and Sheldon, being almost ignorant of Neve's celebrity status, was immune to her charms (and apparently watching her without ANY makeup was a real revelation too!). Both characters are pretty complex yet their core personality and motivations are clear. The darkest hour was kinda suspenseful as it was true confession time, and grand gesture was integrated into the whole thing. as well as what went on just after it (sorry, no spoiler)
