Some Like It in Handcuffs managed to infuse some new elements into the trope "mortal enemies into lovers" by combining it with a female in a family of law enforcement alpha types, as well as a murder cold case and going undercover. But the mixed mood, that seems to switch randomly from tense to light-hearted to sexy sends a mixed message.
Sunny Kennedy is the only female in a family of male detectives and cops and was so desperate in proving herself she took insane risks such as going undercover as a bartender in bad side of town to pursue a cold case for a friend, when she was hauled back to HQ to confront her father (police captain) by hunky detective Judson Blackwolf. Daddy's obviously not pleased, and ordered Blackwolf to be her "advisor". Blackwolf was leaving as soon as the month's up, so he's only doing this as a favor to the captain, and thus, captain's daughter is strictly "hands-off". Sunny obviously don't need a ball-and-chain around her or a spy to tell on her activities. But they can come together because Blackwolf realized the murder Sunny was investigating is the daughter of his one-time mentor. And as they investigate, they found that they are actually quite a bit alike.
The murder mystery and cold case were developed pretty decently, as was the romance, but there just had to be a kidnapping of... well, you know who! (HINT: it's not Judson) and that's just trope as heck.
