GRR Reviews Alien Attachments by Sabine Prestley

Alien Attachments is a somewhat bad title and the cover is a pretty generic hot topless hunk cover that does in no way any sort of accurate portrayal of the novel's world, and it's a pretty good world building to explain the world without making it sound preachy or "tell not show".

Aliens have been living amongst humans for a while, and special "earth protector" agents have been blocking the invasion of hostile aliens from encroaching on Earth. Ian was the heir to the family responsible for the Earth Protectors, and an earth protector himself. When he watched Dani, a girl into escrima and other types of cage fighting, fight, and she was injured, he healed her with his special alien PSI powers, only to realize Dani is PSI gifted, something that should not be possible in humans. Glad that he found his true PSI mate, but horrified that he can never marry her or doom his family and clan into scandal and thus possibly be purged by their enemies in the empire, Ian cannot decide whether to love Dani or kick her to the curb. But when the Empire's dissolution came ahead of schedule, and enemies came out of hiding to attack the family, Ian must tell Dani the truth and perhaps, survive the enemy's attacks for a chance at the future.

In a way, this book is very reminiscent of the books where a normal girl or gifted girl was introduced to the wolf-shifter (i.e. Werewolf) community and they learned that their life was a lie and they have to keep up to survive, and bring their hidden gift to life in order to save the day. This one used more scientific stuff like aliens, portals, and so on, but it was essentially the same idea. It felt a bit long and slow at times, but it was what a scifi romance should be, not glorified alien panty-dropper or alien abduction sex fantasies.
