GRR Reviews DIRTY: An Ex-Navy Seal's Romance by Stephanie B. Nixon

Dirty is a decent ex-military romance that relies on the "one-night-stand and pregnant" trope that lead into relatively minor complications with a lot of threads left dangling in the air by the book ended one wonders if the book was actually finished. It was an absolute MESS of a book that the author should fire the editor.

Vincent left town and joined the navy and eventually became a SEAL, because he doesn't want to be holding down the farm, even though he'll do it if he had to, and he had to because there is no one else. Pa and Vincent never saw eye to eye, esp. not after "the accident". Holly the younger sister wanted to go to school but had to stay and help the farm. Now that Ma died, Vince had to go back to the farm. On his last day, his SEAL bros went to bar and partied, and there he picked up Tululah, a girl there who broke up with her fiancee who she had no feelings for, and Tululah, feeling lonely, went to Vincent's hotel room, and had a great evening together... Except they forgot the condom. Three months later, she found she's pregnant, and Vincent is just settling in at the farm, when Lula found Vincent's address, and decided to pay him a visit...

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

There really isn't much there keeping the two apart. Lula is one confused girl. She wanted Vincent in her life but she won't admit to him or herself. "I just wanted you to know (about the baby)." Yeah, right, had to do it in person with a slight baby bump. When Vincent found out, only took him a couple hours before inviting her to stay and for him to claim the baby. Yet he didn't offer marriage, huh? Vincent seems to be devoid of personality other than "command voice" and "hates daddy" and "do his duty". Sure he can kiss and f*** and make Lula feel good, so what? That doesn't make a romance. And for him to claim Lula and baby for months, then upon arriving at Lula's home, seeing Lula's former BF and a few nasty words, walk out? And he's a SEAL? Oh, come on.

Also, Lula was on Vincent's farm for MONTHS until almost end of harvest for him to leave. She had nothing else to do there? Do everything by phone? Nobody tried to ask her where did you disappear for months? And "what's with the baby"? Sheesh.

And what about this wedding that Lula was so worried about for SIX MONTHS? No mention of it in 2nd half of the book.

And who will run Holly's soap and whatever business now that she's going to university?

I have no problem with the romance, but it's barely lukewarm, it's a one-night stand that turned into a bit more, but the characters are shallow, HEA is merely implied, and too many plot thread left open ended (the wedding, Josh, Vincent and Pa, Vincent's sister Holly, Vincent's ex Rosie, fate of the farm, where's Lula and Vincent going to live, etc. etc. ) This book just feels unfinished.
