Exposed started out somewhat intriguing, but relied on so many tropes such as violence against woman and omniscient and omnipresent villain to make the book "suspenseful" it made for a very painful reading, despite an interesting motivation for the villain. The police details are completely wrong, however.
Kate witnessed the killing of a dishwasher at a restaurant's back alley, except the killer let her live, the first time ever, according to the cops, who had been after this killer called Locke. Cops assigned two detectives to protect her, but both got killed by Locke. US Marshalls Jake and Leonard took over her protection and moved her to a safehouse, but Locke found them again, even as Jake started to suspect his partner by going to his local police liaison Mike to verify some information. And Jake was the only one that can keep Kate safe... or can he? As Jake figured out that Leonard betrayed him, he learned that Locke had kidnapped Leonard's sister Marie to force him to do his bidding. As Jake struggle to keep his affection of Kate at bay, Locke executes his master plan... For Locke will have Kate, no matter what...
WARNING SPOILER AHEAD
Kate was attacked multiple times in the novel, almost got her head smashed in the beginning, then multiple times in the safehouses, including almost drowned in the tub once. Locke basically is the boogeyman... he can appear out of nowhere and always manage to get away, and spent an extraordinary amount of resources for his... masterplan, including exposing his informant(s), even forced ones. Yet he's a stone-cold assassin? This made absolutely no sense. Jake the US Marshall had no one to talk to except Mike who's actually in local police, but NOT the Chief (who may be corrupted)? Who does Jake report to? The author clearly has NO IDEA what sort of chain of command exists in US Marshall Service or Local Police other than what was gleaned from TV shows. Add to the tropes of omnipresent villain who always got away and female punching bag this book is basically unreadable.
