GRR Reviews For Services Rendered by Patricia Kay

For Services Rendered is a "marriage of convenience" story between a business mogul who needed a wife... without love or emotion, and a woman who needed money to care for her mom in a virtually vegetative state after a car accident that also killed her dad. I find the beginning creepy and slow as heck. But then the pace finally picked up to a decent finish.

Claire Kendrick was summoned to meet the CEO, Nick Callahan, for a special assignment... shadow him for a few weeks so she can write the article about him in the CEO Magazine. The whole assignment sounded fishy, but nobody wants to say no to the boss, right? Nick is a self-made millionaire by 30, and he's a good guy, and he's handsome. But when Nick revealed his REAL reason for summoning Claire, she was angry... Because Nick made her a proposal... for a marriage of convenience. He claims he doesn't know how to love, but he'll set her up for life, AND her mother too in the nursing home. In return, he needed a wife, and mother of his children-to-be. But Claire doesn't believe she can marry without love...

It wasn't until 30% mark when Nick revealed the proposal to Claire, explaining all that special assignment was a ruse to get her close. He already had her investigated, of course, and this is basically a business transaction, not a marriage, with Nick doing a Spock (the Vulcan, not the baby doctor) impression. So basically, Claire doesn't really have much of a choice. Obviously, at the end Nick finally came around, but the book's beginning was both creepy and "get on with it".
