GRR Reviews Colorado Sunset (Peakview Series Book 1 by Jill Haymaker
Colorado Sunset is a contemporary cowboy romance set in Colorado, about romance later in life (in the 50's).
June Meyers divorced her cheating husband when she found him fondling one of his 20-something students six years ago. Now, with all the kids grown and off to college and making their own lives, June found herself truly alone, in her 50's, and she chose to embrace a road trip with only her dog as her companion, to eventually visit her son and his family in California. Upon driving through Colorado, she was temporarily stranded in Peakview, Colorado when her car broke down and came to know Jeff Walker, a rugged cowboy of Walker Ranch similar to her in age. Jeff was still grieving over the death of his wife due to cancer eight years ago. While neither was looking for a relationship, both wondered if there is something more than infatuation, but June had to head for California. When June came back for a cattle roundup vacation at the dude ranch nearby, Jeff has a chance to convince her not to leave this time...
The babyboomers' push-pull was good and romance of older folks are rarely discussed in contemporary romances. I find the nemesis (June's ex) to be really lame though. The tone of this series is relatively cozy, and the relationship feels real and not overly dramatic.
Category: Contemporary
Primary Plot: Empty-nester and divorced woman chose to travel and found a compatible widower in Colorado; but she can't stay... and he can't leave...
Tropes: small town, betrayal, scars, widower, forced proximity, fling to a thing
