GRR Reviews Love Life: Billionaire Dance School by Lexy Timms
Love Life is a contemporary romance with a bit of romantic suspense that featured two angst-y main characters that featured some plot twists that were not foreshadowed properly. The one at the end really made no sense at all except to set up for volume 2. The nemesis was substituted for no particular reason at the end. It's just a confusing plot overall.
Antonio Rivera, who now goes by Tony Rivers, came from the ganglands of LA, where his mother was a dance teacher and had once aspired to greater things until she got pregnant and had to quit dance school. He had won a scholarship to a prestigious performing arts school and came to know Blake Smithson, and Allison "Allie" Holbrook, fellow students. Blake is the kind of rich bully who ruins people just because they're in his way. When Allison liked Tony because Tony treated her normally (she came from money but was trying to get out from under her father's control), Blake made it his mission to mess with Tony any chance he got so he can woo Allie for himself. It didn't help that Allie's father doesn't believe in a woman making a career for herself... To him, daughters are commodities to be traded for alliances and to be married off to a rich man. As Allie and Tony carry on in school, Blake's harassment reached fever pitch when police raided Tony's locker on a tip that he may be dealing drugs (and found nothing) but the rumor mill is turning overtime...
Plotting was jarring as plot twists were NOT foreshadowed properly. It is as if the author had to insert a plot twist at the end to justify volume 2.
SPOILER AHEAD
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED
Suddenly near the end of the book, Blake was no longer a problem, Tony did not get tossed out of school, then Allie's father appeared out of nowhere, insult all that Allie had done ("I won't have my daughter all made like like a common whore." or something like that), then when Allie dare speak up for herself, threaten to ruin Tony's life if Allie doesn't go back with him to the city.
Where the BLEEP did this twist came from? There was absolutely NO HINT of this may happen ANYWHERE. Same with plot twists from before. Tony got knived near school, for example, was not foreshadowed properly either. The plot just lacks overall polish.
