GRR Reviews Mastering Her Senses (Blasphemy Book 2 by Laura Kaye

WARNING: BDSM themed romance, reader discretion is advised.

Mastering Her Senses is an interesting BDSM romance where a dom helps his sub overcome fear of the dark by engaging in BDSM as therapy, and fell in love with her at the same time. It's the emotional bondage, and freeing her from her fears that pushed this novel beyond merely "hot" into "wow".

Quinton Ross plays hard, and his club, Blasphemy, reflects that, as it contains some toys that and setups that really plays with senses of his play-dates... Quinton is a dom, but he doesn't want a full-time sub, just someone to play with. Cassia Locke was a sub, and actually scheduled a session with Quinton two years ago, but a caving accident left her deathly afraid of the dark... and her breakdown at Blasphemy brought her back to Quinton, who decided to help her overcome her fear. But as she slowly emerges from her shell, it may be Quinton who was about to lose his heart...

I can't speak for the "effectiveness" of BDSM as fear therapy, as it's mainly about replacing fear with pleasure to reprogram the brain. It "sounds" plausible, which was the whole point of the fiction, and that alone makes this novel heads and shoulders above typical "mommy porn" involving BDSM (and sparkling you-know-whats).

Category: Contemporary

Primary Plot: Woman deathly afraid of the dark agree to sub for a dom determined to help her with BDSM therapy (not as kooky as it sounds)

Tropes: BDSM, different worlds, PTSD, scars, reunion

Overall Rating:  5/5
