GRR Reviews The Officer's Promise (Brothers in Blue) by K. Langston

The Officer's Promise is a decently plotted but formulaic novel featuring an abused woman and a cop who once loved her and now have to save her. It has good polish and all the details seems to make sense with no obvious too-stupid-to-live oments.

NYPD Detective Ryker Cunningham comes from a long time of folks wearing blue, and so are his brothers, but he never forgot his first love, MaryAnn, who lost her parents in 9/11, then married the wrong guy who abused her. After suffering enough, she finally spoke up, and the responding officer was Ryker, who rescued her. But is she ready to have a second chance? Can she accept Ryker's dangerous career? Will her crazy ex do something drastic?

I've read several novels with the same exact plot and while this one broke no new grounds, the characters are rounded out nicely.

Category: Romantic Suspense

Primary Plot: Detective who rescued a friend from her abusive husband wanted to love her, if she would only let him into her heart

Tropes: law enforcement, protector, woman in peril, evil ex, scars

Overall Rating:  4/5 (rounded up)
