GRR Reviews Take Me Home (A Whisper Horse) by Nancy Herkness
Take Me Home is a homecoming story about a woman trying to solve everybody else's problems except her own, if she'll ever admit to having some.
Claire Parker left Sanctuary West Virginia for New York to make a life for herself. However, she's now back. She had to divorce her overly critical husband. She had to take care of her sister, the only relative she had left, and her two little nieces. Her sister was abandoned by her husband who tried to blame her for the divorce. She had to get back to her job in a New York art gallery, as her passion is finding the right painting for the right people... Eventually. To move here, she had to sell most of her collection, and she kept only one, a Western piece about horses, which is her second love. She found solace in finding her whisper horse... Willow, an abused racehorse, on a rescue ranch. Claire also found the ruggedly handsome Dr. Tim Arbuckle, Willow's vet, charming, but with unpredictable moods. Tim's wife, Anais, a well-known actress, committed suicide a while back. He thought he'd never love again, but Claire... reminded him of the good times he shared with Anias, and he wondered if he can find that again... or if he's holding her from the life she was meant to have...
With a lot of b-plots, there never was a dull moment in this book. If it's not one thing, it's another. And Claire's attempt to keep all the plates spinning is valiant if a bit futile. But multiple characters will change, and multiple symbols or symbolic shackles will be left behind. I won't spoil all the twists and turns. All in all, very satisfying.
