GRR Reviews The Face of the Earth by Deborah Raney
Mitch's wife, Jill, was leaving her conference in Kansas City at noon to start on the 5-hour drive home. She had not arrived by 6... or 7. By late evening, Mitch is really starting to get worried. The only one he can turn for support was Shelly, his wife's best friend and next door neighbor. As police were called, and the kids, already off to college, came home to worry, the feelings soon turned to dread. Her mobile was discovered in the hotel garage. The car was not found. Somewhere between Kansas City and home, she seems to have vanished off the face of the earth. Her final words, left on the home answering machine, was that she looked forward to be home. As the wait turned into days, weeks, then months, Mitch and Shelley grew closer, but they cannot take that extra step. Mitch wanted to keep his vows, and Shelley was too guilty about wanting her best friend's husband... Every lead turned into a dead end...
It's a mystery and a very spiritual kind of love. And yes, you will find out what happened. It was very sad... And yet, a good conclusion.
