GRR Reviews Escaping Vegas (The Inheritance Book 1) by Danielle Bourdon

Escaping Vegas is a fine thriller with some romantic elements, but the stereotypical opponent (nameless "Chinese agents") and a security specialist that doesn't practice basic security made for an uncomfortable emotional journey. The overly simplistic ending also contributed to the overall merely average rating.

The setup is fine. Girl meets mysterious guy, rescued by the same mysterious guy, they go on the run, deal with attackers, got tracked again, and finally figured out what was their pursuers after. However, the enemy was always portrayed as faceless "Chinese agents" with no distinguishable feature. There was a twist later, but I'm not spoiling that. The MMC, Cole West, seems to be properly trained for security stuff, but he never checked his vehicle for a tracking device (and the opposition somehow always magically knew where they are anyway!) And why does he keep driving his own vehicle when he knew they knew about his vehicle? The betrayal/twist should have been the darkest hour, but it occurred at roughly 60/65% of the book, not the end, so it was misplaced, or the ending was so long it made the darkest hour invisible.

All in all, I guess the book was okay. It could be a decent thriller if the last 1/3 was rewritten. Instead, we have a thriller (with a bad ending) mixed with a romance that was barely lukewarm.
